Rangers Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
Second baseman Ian Kinsler's season is officially done.
Kinsler said Thursday he will undergo surgery to repair a sports hernia in his abdominal wall. Kinsler, who has been on the disabled list since Aug. 18, had been trying to come back without having a surgical procedure during the year but continued to feel soreness when he tried to run.
Dr. John Preskitt will perform the surgery Sept. 11. Kinsler said he should be able to run at full speed in six to eight weeks, which should not significantly hamper his traditional offseason conditioning program.
"The doctor said the progress I was making just wasn't significant enough and if you don't have surgery for this, it's something you are always going to be dealing with," Kinsler said.
