Padres Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

There are some in the Padres organization who believe Nick Hundley will develop into the club's catcher of the future, even if the 24-year-old was hitting only .232 with 12 homers at Triple-A Portland.

But Hundley, the Padres' second-round pick in 2005 out of the University of Arizona, was rapidly improving at Portland. And the feeling in the organization was that a full season at Portland might make Hundley major league ready by the start of the 2009 season.

The timetable was dramatically moved forward Wednesday when Michael Barrett fouled a ball off his face in Denver.

With No. 1 catcher Josh Bard already on the disabled list through at least the All-Star break with a high ankle sprain and Barrett now out for up to six weeks, the Padres had no option than to...

For five dominating innings, Cha Seung Baek looked as if he might become the first San Diego Padre to throw a no-hitter. The Arizona Diamondbacks finally managed a couple of hits in the sixth. By then, the Padres were on their way to a 5-1 victory on Friday night to drop the NL West leaders below .500.

A-Gone having All-Star-caliber season for Padres (AP)
Adrian Gonzalez shrugs off the All-Star-caliber numbers he's putting up with the San Diego Padres. A season that went so wrong so fast will do that to an unassuming guy who's quietly become a star and leader of his hometown team.

The Padres placed Barrett on the 15-day disabled list on Friday and purchased the contract of catcher Nick Hundley from Triple-A Portland. With Ichiro Suzuki matching his career-high with a 5-for-5 day, the lowly Seattle Mariners appear to be showing signs of hope. While Suzuki put on a hitting clinic with his five singles, Adrian Beltre and Jeff Clement homered and the Mariners beat...
