Nationals Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

The Nationals would have liked for Shairon Martis and Luke Montz to win their first game in the major leagues, but the end result was about the only thing that didn't turn out well for the rookie duo Thursday night.

Martis, 21, allowed just two runs on four hits over five innings but suffered a 2-0 loss to the Braves. The young right-hander allowed five walks, but he acquitted himself well otherwise and impressed team officials with his poise.

"He's 21 years old, so we're happy," manager Manny Acta said. "He came out of it better than a lot of people would have anticipated."

Martis, who previously has pitched for the Netherlands in the World Baseball Classic and the Olympics, said he wasn't nervous pitching in the big leagues for the first time.
