Small-market AL clubs keep rolling (AP)
Move over, Yankees and Red Sox. Out of the way, White Sox. A couple of small-market clubs are showing the big boys how to play. Edwin Jackson took a two-hitter into the eighth inning and Carlos Pena homered and drove in five runs Friday night, helping the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays beat the Kansas City Royals 11-2 for their fifth straight victory.

Indians Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

The Indians' losing streak reached six games Friday ng a 12-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins. But it was what happened before the game that was more significant for the Indians than the game itself.

The Indians designated for assignment struggling closer Joe Borowski, and with no obvious replacement on the roster, Indians officials are effectively conceding that their chances of contending for a division title this season have ended.

Crippled by a run of injuries to several key players and with some others underachieving, the last-place Indians have decided to begin pointing toward the 2009 season.

For now, manager Eric Wedge said Masa Kobayashi will get the bulk of the save situations in the bullpen, but Wedge added that he might use other relievers in the...

Young, Punto have 4 RBIs each in Twins' 12-3 win (AP)

Cleveland Indians' third base coach Joel Skinner, left, congratulates Ben Francisco after Francisco hit a home run against the Minnesota Twins in the sixth inning of a baseball game on Friday, July 4, 2008, in Minneapolis.

Delmon Young and Nick Punto are starting to get comfortable in their roles. Young hit a three-run home run and had a season-high four RBIs, Punto homered and also had four RBIs, and the surging Minnesota Twins beat the free-falling Cleveland Indians 12-3 on Friday night. Young got off to a slow start after coming over in a trade from Tampa Bay, and Punto has battled injuries and hasn't been able to...

Indians designate RHP Joe Borowski for assignment (AP)
Indians closer Joe Borowski, last year's American League saves leader, was designated for assignment on Friday. The right-hander blew his fourth save in 10 chances on Wednesday against the Chicago White Sox, and was 1-3 with a 7.56 ERA in 18 games this season. Borowski had 45 saves last season but has struggled since returning from an arm injury.

Cabrera plays for Triple-A club after incident (AP)
Indians prospect Asdrubal Cabrera was fined an undisclosed amount but played for Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday, one night after throwing his helmet and raising his bat toward plate umpire Jason Klein while getting ejected. Cabrera went 1-for-6 in a 7-6, 13-inning loss to the Rochester Red Wings. It was announced that he would be fined by the International League but not serve a suspension for his...

Injured Indians set to shop Sabathia (AP)
There won't be any pennants or championship flags raised over Progressive Field this year. Only a white one. It's time for the Cleveland Indians to surrender. A promising season sabotaged by injuries to star players and underachievement by most others has reached its point of no return. The defending AL Central champions are in last place, 12 1/2 games back in their division and on the verge of an...

Chicago White Sox's Brian Anderson hits a two-run double against the Cleveland Indians during the seventh inning of a baseball game Wednesday, July 2, 2008, in Chicago. The Sox defeated the Indians 6-5.

No stranger to drama, A.J. Pierzynski found himself at the center of it again. This time, he didn't mind. Pierzynski led off the 10th inning with his second homer of the game and the Chicago White Sox beat the Cleveland Indians 6-5 Wednesday night for their seventh straight win. "Ozzie was yelling at me to not try to be a hero and hit a single," Pierzynski said.

Ramirez homer, Cabrera single rally White Sox (AP)

Cleveland Indians pitcher Joe Borowski walks back to the mound after giving up a home run during the tenth inning of a baseball game against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, in Chicago. Chicago beat the Indians 4-2 in ten innings.

Alexei Ramirez's soaring fly ball was either going to land in the glove of Cleveland left fielder Ben Francisco to end the game or clear the fence and tie it up with two outs in the 10th. The way things have been going for the Chicago White Sox lately, it was the latter. Ramirez's high fly was a game-tying homer off Indians closer Joe Borowski.

We don't grade on a curve, and that's why only the Rays get an A-plus while three teams are given Fs.

Swisher powers White Sox over Indians (AP)

Cleveland Indians pitcher Tom Mastny walks back to the mound after giving up a home run during the sixth inning of a baseball game against the Chicago White Sox on Monday, June 30, 2008, in Chicago.

Nick Swisher knows this much: It's almost as difficult trying to explain how he's overcome his slow start with the Chicago White Sox as it has been to actually do it. "I wish I had the answers to it. I don't think in my mind I feel like I'm really doing anything differently now than I was at the beginning of the season.

The Cincinnati Reds' right-hander bounced back from the worst start of his career and Adam Dunn hit a three-run homer in a 9-5 win over the Cleveland Indians on Sunday. Arroyo (5-7) struck out six and gave up two runs over six innings for the Reds, who took five of six from their interleague and intrastate rivals this season.
