Third baseman Chipper Jones was back in the lineup Thursday, the swelling in his right knee having gone down and no new fluid developing. But one must wonder what crosses his mind when he takes his place at third and looks around at his teammates. Does he feel marooned, the only veteran presence in the field?
Despite a lingering head cold, Jones had to smile. "My patience," he said, "has gone way up this year. In years past I would have blown a gasket a time or two. I've had to bite my tongue."
He's not the only one.
"Bobby's had to do the same thing," Jones said, referring to manager Bobby Cox. "About three weeks ago you could really see a change in Bobby, because Bobby is always really intense.

Parr tossed six sharp innings and combined with three relievers for a five-hitter, leading the Atlanta Braves to a 2-0 victory over the Washington Nationals. Jorge Cantu homered and Baker hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to drive in the winning run in the ninth, helping the Marlins beat the Braves 4-3 on Monday. Braves right-handed reliever Rafael Soriano had elbow surgery on Thursday and is expected to be ready by spring training next season. Soriano had an ulnar nerve transposition and a small bone spur removed from his right elbow by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala. Soriano, who has been on the 15-day disabled list three times this season, was 0-1 with three saves and a 2.57 ERA in 14 games.
