Indians Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

The Indians had a scheduled off day Thursday before starting a seven-game trip to Kansas City and Baltimore that will begin Friday against the Royals. The trip will allow manager Eric Wedge and his staff to evaluate most, if not all, of the September call-ups.

That group includes pitchers Jon Meloan, Rich Rundles, Tom Mastny and Brian Slocum, and first baseman Michael Aubrey.

All four pitchers will be used out of the bullpen. Rundles is seen as a potential matchup left-hander. Meloan was acquired from the Dodgers in the Casey Blake trade, and he has a power arm, which is in short supply in the Indians bullpen.

Mastny and Slocum have been given trials before, with varying success.

Chicago White Sox's Nick Swisher, front right, celebrates with teammates after the White Sox beat the Cleveland Indians 4-2 in a baseball game, Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, in Cleveland.

Following his team's 4-2 win over Cleveland on Wednesday, Ozzie Guillen leaned back in his chair and breathed a sigh of relief. "We needed this one, man," he said. The Chicago White Sox manager wasn't kidding. The White Sox came into the game having lost five of six, and were tied with Minnesota atop the AL Central.

It was a special moment for Cleveland's switch-hitter, who hit his first home run in nearly a year to help the Indians beat the Chicago White Sox 9-3 on Tuesday night. "It felt great to see one finally go out," Martinez said.

Bye-bye, Buffalo. Hello, Columbus? The Cleveland Indians informed Major League Baseball on Tuesday of their desire to terminate their player development contract with Triple-A Buffalo, ending a 14-year partnership with the Bisons. The Indians' decision appears to clear the way for the club to move its top minor league affiliate to Columbus, Ohio, which will have a new stadium next season.

Travis Hafner left in minors by Indians (AP)
Travis Hafner was left in the minor leagues Tuesday when the Cleveland Indians didn't make him one of their September callups. Perry welcomes Indians' Lee into 20-win club (AP)
Gaylord Perry tossed the rods in the back of his pickup truck and got ready to do some fly fishing in Yellowstone Park. First, though, he had to find a newspaper. Without a television or radio, Perry didn't know if Cliff Lee had gotten his 20th win. Once he saw Monday night's Cleveland-Chicago box score and that Lee was indeed a 20-game winner -- the Indians' first since Perry in 1974 -- the Hall of...

Exactly one year after being brought back from the minor leagues, Lee had something major to celebrate: He's Cleveland's first 20-game winner in 34 years. "Has a nice ring to it," Lee said.

Beltre homered twice, Roy Corcoran completed a shaky ninth inning for his second save and Seattle beat the Cleveland Indians 6-4 Sunday to complete a three-game sweep. Beltre's third multihomer game of the season and 19th of his career helped Seattle win for the seventh time in nine games.

"It feels good anytime you can help the team win," Ibanez said. "We've been battling.

Mariners edge Indians 3-2 (AP)

Seattle Mariners pitcher J.J. Putz reacts after the final out and the Mariners defeated the Cleveland Indians 3-2 in a baseball game, Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, in Cleveland.

For nearly two weeks, the Cleveland Indians strung together timely hits, quality starts and win after win after win, racking up 10 straight. And then they ran into the Seattle Mariners. Of all teams. Felix Hernandez stopped baseball's hottest team, Raul Ibanez homered and drove in three runs and the lowly Mariners -- the AL's worst team -- beat Cleveland 3-2 on Friday night, ending the Indians'...

Grady Sizemore trotted around the bases and stepped back into the dugout as if his leadoff homer were no big deal. Just another day at the ballpark for Sizemore. Kelly Shoppach hasn't exactly relished playing against his hometown team. That changed when Shoppach hit a three-run homer and later got an infield single that set up the Indians' tiebreaking run as Cleveland rallied from a six-run deficit to win their sixth straight Saturday night, beating the Texas Rangers 8-7.
